Miriam Newman
About the artist
Miriam’s present emphaiss is on abstact landscapes, sometimes including figures or foreground objects mysterioiusly emerging in subtle but realistic form. These oil canvases are often layered, thickly textured or quietly luminous, giving a sense of light and distance. The quality of the paint itself is evocative. Miriam also works in watercolor and mixed media, creating elegant landscapes or nature formations. She has exhibited figurative, realistic ink and pencil drawings, many of children. Displaying a diversity of talent, she recently won best in show at the juried Chattooga Art Show with a portrait of a child and first award with an abstract landscape.
